Radhika Mishra is a creative girl living in Hrishikesh with her family, who wants to have her own identity before marrying someone. After receiving encouragement from Samaira Khanna (Sam), who lives in Mumbai and whose parents own an advertising agency (Birdsong), Radhika decides to become a copywriter and work at Birdsong. Sam and her mother Piyali are estranged because of a freak car accident that happened when Sam was driving which led to the death of her brother Jai. Sam begins to trust Radhika and becomes great friends with her when she brings Sam and Piyali together.

Radhika and Sam are always supported by the latter's best friend Neil. Neil confesses his love to Sam but she is in love with Arjun Mehra. Arjun is a mystery man who has a whirlwind romance with Sam. But he has a sinister motive. His adopted sister Nandini Pandey had an affair with Samrat (Sam's father) but he left her and went back to Piyali. Arjun wishes to marry Sam to ruin her life and exact Nandini's revenge. He even follows Sam and Neil to Lonavla after she rejects his marriage proposal (because she trusts Radhika's opinion of him being wrong for her). Radhika attempts to stop him and they begin to have a more friendly relationship. They even save each other's lives in two separate incidents.

Radhika tries to find out Arjun's truth but is ultimately convinced that Arjun is a good man, especially when he helps her get out of her relationship with Saral (her fiancé who was disrespectful and emotionally abusive to her). Since Arjun now has Radhika's approval, Sam agrees to marry Arjun. But Radhika comes to know Nandini and Arjun's truth and tries to reveal it to Sam but Nandini and Saral create circumstantial evidence that makes Sam believe that Radhika is trying to seduce Arjun.

Since Radhika has no proof about Nandini's plans, she decides to trap Arjun and claims that they both love each other and he is cheating Sam. She does this simply to stop Sam's marriage but her own family ends up disowning her. Arjun asks Radhika to marry him. He thinks she will back out, which will prove to Sam that there is nothing between him and Radhika. But Radhika decides to sacrifice her life for friendship and marries Arjun so as to block him from marrying Sam. Sam is shattered and Neil supports her. Radhika is left with no choice but to go live with Arjun as his wife. She begins to see him as a good person and tries to prove to Arjun that Nandini had told her that their plan was to kill Sam, not just to take over Birdsong (which is what Nandini told Arjun). Meanwhile, Sam is drowning her sorrows in alcohol with Neil. He ends up making her think of him as her soulmate which makes Sam question her feelings about Neil and Arjun.

Radhika and Arjun re-join Birdsong and Radhika is insulted by Sam. She tells Neil that she would've willingly left Arjun for Radhika, if Radhika had just told her the truth. Instead, she was lied to and so she wants to hurt Radhika by getting Arjun back. When Sam and Arjun decide to go on a date, Neil and Radhika both stop them (citing their friendship and marriage respectively) and end up going on the dates themselves, bringing both couples closer. Neil informs Sam that he is leaving Birdsong. Sam is upset to hear this and asks him if he is going away because he loves her. He tells her that he doesn't love her but thinks she loves him. Arjun tells Radhika that he will forget Sam if she gives him his rights as her husband. Radhika agrees to sleep with Arjun but Arjun lets her free from this condition at the last minute, leading to her respecting him even more. Arjun and Radhika have both fallen in love with each other but he can't leave his mission and she can't take away Sam's love.

At a party thrown for Arjun and Radhika's wedding, Neil tells Sam to admit that she loves him and he will leave everything for her. But if not, then she should stop leading him on. Radhika provokes Nandini into admitting his plan of killing Sam in front of Arjun. Radhika tells Sam the meaning of true love and says that she is leaving Arjun for Sam, as he was truly never hers. Arjun breaks his relationship with Nandini and makes her leave their house. Radhika tries to go away too but is stopped by a broken Arjun for one more night. They fall asleep in each other's arms. At the same time, Sam tells Neil that Radhika is divorcing Arjun and she wants to break her friendship with Neil as it is not letting her move on. They tearfully separate and Sam leaves to tell Arjun her decision. The next morning, Radhika leaves Arjun's home, while he is still asleep.

Arjun wakes up to see the divorce papers signed and a note from Radhika that she is leaving. He rushes to the door and sees Sam outside it. The show cuts to a few days ahead with Radhika missing Arjun in Hrishikesh. Arjun is now a partner in Birdsong and he goes to Radhika to confess his love. When asked about Sam, it is revealed that she was in love with Neil and has married him. Radhika then accepts Arjun's love and the show cuts to two years ahead. In Mumbai, Radhika and Arjun have a happy married life with Radhika winning an award for best copywriter. Neil and Sam are very happy too and have adopted a dog. The show ends with a montage of scenes of the happy foursome working, fighting, laughing and living their life to the fullest at Birdsong.
